Top Page & How It Works

WhatPercent's top page, when visiting for the first time displays a random view of different opinions and reviews created by their respective users. This view can be changed and customized as explained in the Main Menu section.

(1) When you float your mouse over one of the pictures you can see a more detailed view of it's respective opinion or review, it's contents, and it's current vote percent status, ie (How many users have voted agree as opposed to disagree and informative as opposed to uninformative respectively).
(2) To see more opinions and/or reviews in this fashion you can click on the arrow to the right of the screen as shown below.

Main Menu

The main menu is split into 6 sections at the top right of your screen. Irrespective of your current screen the main menu can be both seen and accessed.

(1) The large red button is used when you would like to post a new opinion or review.
(2) The button labeled number two is used for loggin in and logging out. After having created an account, simply click here to log in.
(3) The view button is used when you would like to customize your view. Customizing your view is easy and fast. Here you can select what types of posts you would like to see on the top page, what order and even language you would like them displayed in. When you're finished making your selections, make sure to click the "Set" button to save your changes!
(4) Help! Apparently, you've already found that one on your own! All the details of our site are contained in the help section. Click help to see a complete list of it's contents.
(5) Upon clicking the category button, a drop-down style menu will appear with a list of all the categories on our site. Choose the category of your choice to see if there are any opinions or reviews in that respective category.
(6) Language settings. Currently, this site is only available in English and Japanese. We hope to expand on these languages in the near future. Can you speak multiple languages? Maybe you can help us translate the site into other languages!? Click here and let us know which languages you are able to translate the site into and we'll contact you as soon as possible.
(7) Number seven is a display of your user name and a link to your profile page. Use this link to easily access your personal data, homepage settings, design, and look, etc.
(8) This is the search function for WhatPercent. Type anything into it and see what you get! Ya, never know!
(9) These two small buttons switch your view from opinion/review picture mode to user avatar view mode. Opinion/review picture mode will display the pictures featured in those particular opinions or reviews. The avatar picture mode will display the avatar of the user that posted those respective opinions and reviews.

Registration

Registering with WhatPercent only takes a minute and is as painless as we could make it. Simply click on the "Sign Up" tab at the top right of the screen, choose an avatar or wait until you log in to upload your own image, then fill out the form and you're done! Just check your mail and be sure to click on the activation link! If for some reason you don't get the activation mail, it may have been caught in one of your mail servers spam filters. If you think this could be the case, please check your spam folder if you have one. Alternatively, you could use a different mail address. However, if you really want to use that particular address you can mail us with your id and we'll activate it on our side.

(1) The data you give us will remain private. We do not distribute, resale, or share your information with anyone. Additionally, we allow users to delete their profiles. (Unlike many other sites) you don't need to worry about never being able to remove your identity. For more information on removing your account please check out the user preferences section.
(2) Once you've filled out the form you can optionally choose from one of our default avatars. Don't see anything you like? No problem! After you log into WhatPercent simply click on your user name at the top right of the screen, then click on "Change User Preferences" to upload an image of your own!

Logging In Using Your Facebook Or Yahoo ID

If you hate registering with a million sites, we don't blame you! We feel the same way. That's why we've connected to Yahoo and Facebook for your conveniece. If you would prefer, you can log into WhatPercent using your account with either of these networks. Simply click the "Login" tab on the main menu and instead of entering your WhatPercent username and password, click on one either the Facebook Connect or Yahoo! ID button to login that way. Once you have performed this task you will see the following graphic appear.

(1) Here, you are given a default user name. If random numbers don't excite you, we encourage you to change it to your liking!
(2) We also request that you fill out the birthday and sex section so that we can better give accurate anonymous statistics in the future.

User Custom Design

WhatPercent creates a custom profile page for every user that registers. This page and the entire site for that matter can be customized to your liking.


(1) To customize the way the site looks as well as your profile page, simply click on the "Change User Preferences" link on your profile page as shown below.




Clicking on this link will bring you to a page that displays edit screen for your avatar, title display and let you modify your user preferences.

(1) To upload or modify your avatar picture, just click on the "Modify this" button.
(2) To upload or modify your profile title image, just click on the "Modify this" button below your Profile Image.



Furthermore, you can click on the design tab which will display a grid of four colors that you can define to meet your own personal style. Note: Some text colors when combined with the sidebar color can be hard to read so choose your colors carefully! Also, don't forget to click the "Update my profile" button to save your changes!

(1) Modify this to set your desired background color.
(2) Modify this to set your text color.
(3) Modify this to set the color of your sidebar.
(4) Modify this to set the color of your profile text.
(5) Click this to reset your colors back to the default color set used when you registered.

User Preferences

After creating your account you can modify your information and add additional information depending on what you'd like displayed on your personal profile page. When you are done modifying your information to your liking, make sure to click on the "Update my profile" button to save the changes!

(1) This section allows you to change your display name and password. Please note that changing the email address that your registered with is not allowed.
(2) This section allows you to have a custom comment under your profile title image. Say a rhyme! Say something funny! Quote your favorite poet, it's totally up to you.
(3) The bottom section allows you to display your website address. Maybe you have a blog or website you'd like everyone to know about? Put any address you like here or nothing at all. Additionally, you can select your region which will help us with future options to view votes by region. If you would like to recieve email from us just check this box. If not, uncheck it.
(4) The last link will allow you to remove your identity from our website. Any opinions or reviews you have submitted stay, but all your personal information including name, website url, avatar image, personal info, etc, will be deleted. If you would like to make a new account after deleting your current one, remember that a different email will be required. We apologize for this inconvenience, but it's necessary for security reasons.

User Data & Statistics

A variety of different statistics and information can be found in the sidebar of your profile page.



(1) This area shows your total number of posts as well as how many times you've either agreed with or disagreed with an opinion. This number is not affected by your votes on reviews.
(2) This box shows the total number of reviews you have written as well as your review rank. Your review rank is calculated by user's votes on whether or not your review was useful. The more useful the review, the higher your rank.
(3) The "User's Comments" box shows what people think of your comments. The up arrow denotes the number of positive impressions your comments made and likewise the red arrow denotes the opposite. To see the comments a user made, simply click on the the link at the bottom of this box.
(4) This box displays the total number of votes both on opinions and reviews. You can also view your own or others vote history by clicking on this link.
(5) This box shows the website you entered into your profile in your preferences pane.
(6) Your favorite users are listed here. If there are more than 6, click on the link to see the rest!
(7) Similar to the above, you can see you likes you in this box! This area is also limited to displaying 6 members, so click on the link if you want to see them all!
(8) "The User's Recent Votes" box shows your most recent vote activity denoted by the avatar of the user whom created the post.
(9) In this box you can see the tags you have used in your previous posts.

User Favorites

If you find a user you like and want to follow, simply follow them by first going to their profile page. To visit any users profile page, simply click on their avatar or name in their posts.

(1) Once you are on that users page, simply click on the "Add to your favorites" link. That users avatar will then appear on your profile page in your favorite users box.

Posting Opinions & Reviews

Once you have looked around and read some opinions and reviews, you may want to post something yourself. When you are ready to do that, simply click on the bright red button called "New Post" at the top of the screen and a screen will appear with fields for your title (90 Character limit), the details of your opinion/review, and any tags that would help identify that opinion or review. Make sure to input the model number if relavent to the product you are reviewing! Next to these fields will be an assortment of pull down menus as can be seen below.

(1) Please choose the length, type of post, category, sub category, if applicable, whether or not you want a mail sent to you when the poll closes, as well as the robot checker code. Notice that when you change the "Post Type" from "Opinion" to "Review" the "Answer Text" changes with it? That is because depending on the type of post the vote button's label will change as noted. (See small cloud for view of the voting area as it will look in your poll.
(NEW!) We have added a new feature to this area called, "Custom". The custom feature allows you to create your own button labels. Please note that this feature only applies to polls and when used your post cannot be presented as a review.

Editing Opinions & Reviews

After you have posted your opinion or review, there is a chance you may want to edit your comments, or perhaps change the picture, etc. In this case simply log into WhatPercent, go to the review in question and click on the "Edit your opinion" link, located just under your detailed explanation.

(1) The text field containing your detailed explanation can be edited here.
(2) Feel free to change the picture you originally posted or add a picture to your opinion or review using this area.

Social Network Buttons & Site Moderation

Near the bottom of an opinion or review you may have noticed a number of links and buttons with various logos printed on them. Most of the time you don't need to worry about this stuff. However, if you want to share your review or opinion with the world, the social network buttons can enable thousands of people to easily read your opinion or review!

(1) When you feel an opinion or review contains content or language that is not appropriate or in bad taste, please do not hesitate to report that post to us using the "Report to Moderator" link. The link just below this allows you to change the referring URL to a shorter abbreviated version for limited character postings such as Twitter or Facebook.
(2) These are networks to help you get your post out there. These social networks can be very effective in spreading your post across the net. Choose the network for which you have an account, or sign up to all of them and spread your post even further! Additionally, you can get the RSS feed for your post here to see further activity on this page.

Commenting

In the comments area, you are able to see the avatar of the commentator, as well as his or her vote status. In this case, the commentator has not voted yet resulting in a status of "Neutral". In the event he or she voted Agree, it would read as such and be colored blue. If he or she voted Disagree, it would be colored red and say "Disagree".

(1) Just below the users avatar and vote status are two buttons which allow other users to either up-vote or down-vote that users comment. It's kind of feedback to the feedback as it were.
(2) In the are just below the users comment, there is a link to that users profile page, the date and time he or she made the comment, and a place to report that users comment to the moderator.
