Tim Burton's
Alice In Wonderland
Although it seems as this is a somewhat unique take on the Disney classic, it seems to have fallen short of unique for Tim Burton. I had expected more from such an accomplished director, hoping he had upped the anti for this one, but instead, it seemed like he just kind of pumped it out. Johnny Depp's performance was flawless as could be expected, and some of the other characters did well in delivering their parts as well. The sad thing is, it just didn't do much for me. It didn't bring new life to the age old classic, nor did it tell a different story that I could have appreciated on it's own. Especially a let down is the end where I thought there was a lot of possibility but instead I found age old Hollywood approaches to age old Hollywood stories.
All in all, this movie was a let down. I would assume it will do very well as it already has a classic status around the world. Just don't expect any huge deliveries in terms of special effects, story telling, or direction.
The actors and actresses do their jobs alright, but not enough to save a film that seemed aimed just to smash down the doors of the box offices rather than creativity. Let's hope this fills Tim's pockets enough to where he can feel relaxed and not expecting a huge pay check at the end of his next film attempt, allowing him room to explore and challenge himself more.
