A mother of 4 children and working for an Indian tribe (so you know her salary isn't earth shattering) was just found guilty and fined 1.9 million dollars?! WTF?! Did she steal an American tank or something? Fuck!
What about the teenage boy that dubs a cd he bought for his friend?! Should he have to pay 1.9 million too?
This issue is being bombarded by large corporations seeking to scare the hell out of the mass public to get them to stop, but I say THAT is illegal. Taking someone to court over illegally downloading music, fine. 1.9 million dollars? Completely ludicrous. No wonder nobody (especially overseas) takes the American law system seriously.
I seriously hope to see public media figures and musicians alike discuss this and express their outrage. I mean, this is fucking ridiculous.

In the long run it will end up hurting the record industry more than it helps. Here's an update on that case you mentioned.

Penalties for illegal downloads is WAY out of hand!
